Jim is a prolific composer with over 400 works to his credit. His latest works are a triple concerto for three violas and orchestra, and a double concerto for hammer dulcimer, guitar and orchestra. The Northbrook Symphony has premiered two of Jim's works, "Slovak Reflections: The Promise of America" and "Waltz of the Enchanted Musicians." Jim appeared as a guest soloist in both these works.
As a concert artist and multi-instrumentalist, Jim performs on piano and rare historic instruments. Jim’s piano concerts are known for his passionate arrangements of movie themes and the performances of his own works. Jim is a specialist in rare historic string instruments and features these in many of his concerts.
Jim Kendros is known to audiences as "The North Shore's Favorite Music Historian." Jim presents music appreciation seminars for a variety of senior facilities, libraries, corporations and community centers. In addition to being the Pre-Concert Lecturer for the Northbrook Symphony Orchestra, Jim is also the Educator and Speaker for the acclaimed Music Salon of Elgin which meets at the Gail Borden Public Library.
In addition to his acclaimed first CD of original piano compositions, "Fermata's Journey,” Jim is completing three additional CD recording projects: "Songs from the Nova,” Jim's digital orchestral fantasies played on the Yamaha Clavinova, "From One...To Another,” Jim's premier CD of the rare and historic nyckelharpa (or “keyed violin”) from Sweden, and "Bassically Door," where Jim plays several instruments focusing on the bass guitar in original works inspired by the beautiful scenery of Door County, Wisconsin.
