Experience the plaintive sounds of the nyckelharpa (keyed violin from Sweden) and the festive expressions of the hurdy gurdy (wheel violin from France). Both of these instruments have histories dating from at least 1390! Jim will offer beloved folk melodies, light classical selections and his own passionate originals on these fascinating instruments. Many writers throughout the centuries have said the clavichord sounds like soft ocean waves on the sand. Revel in the delicate musings of an instrument beloved by Bach, Mozart and many others. Jim brings you a truly unique concert experience! Drawing on his love of his first instrument, the bass guitar, Jim has refitted his bass with strings that are tuned exactly like a cello. Jim will play excerpts of Bach's cello suites on this modern instrument, a musical experience rarely heard! Jim will also include the second instrument he learned, the mandolin, as we enjoy favorites by Mozart and Vivaldi. The mandolin was a courtly favorite in the 1600s and 1700s. Join Jim in this festive concert of plucked strings, from the past and present!
